Ruling Regarding Standing for National Anthems or Flags
Question:
Is it permissible to stand up out of respect for any national anthem, or any national flag?
Answer:
It is not permissible for the Muslim to stand up for any national anthem, nor any national flag out of respect. Rather, this is from the evil innovations which did not exist at the time of the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), nor at the time of the Rightly Guided CaliphsAnd this action negates the obligation of the completeness of Tawheed, and the purity of respect for Allaah alone, and it invites towards Shirk. And in this action is resemblance of the disbelievers, and blind following of them in their despicable customs, and deviating along with them in their extreme attitude towards their leaders and their ceremonies. Indeed the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) prohibited resembling them and emulating them. And the success is with Allaah. And may the Prayers and Peace be upon Muhammad and his Family and his Companions.

As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaah, barakAllaahu feeki for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHaving been in this situation... oh the looks one gets when not standing up and saluting the flag lol. We are to seek the pleasure of Allaah and not the pleasure of the disbelieving people.
wa alaikum salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu...oh I can imagine the looks (lol). Na'am, we can not please the people over Allaah Subhaana wa ta ala. You are so right ukhti. wa feeki barakAllaah.
ReplyDeleteAs salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakatuhu,
ReplyDeleteJazaAllaahu Khairan ukhti. good post, thanks for sharing this. I use to experience this often when my children were in the public school system. Finding myself year after year writing notes to teachers informing them that my children WILL NOT be taking part in saluting of their flag , nor standing under no circumstance. Some would all ways try to find a way to continue to ask " can they stand" once I replied they never asked again. This is one reason out of many I love homeschooling I no longer have to worry about my children being subjected to the non- belivers and their shirk, in the public school system , Alhamdulliaah ! ( LOL)
wa 'alaikum assalamu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu, akhwan wa akhwat, alhamdulillah, excellent replies, and let us all keep on rejecting the shaitan and the diin of the kuffar.. and may Allah subhana wa ta'ala aid us in our righteous efforts, 'amiin.
ReplyDeleteAmeen...
ReplyDeletelol @ remembering my daughter telling her teachers that saluting the flag is shirk (did they understand? I dunno) and she will not be pledging allegience to a piece of cloth. Love how she is so outspoken maa shaa Allaah... certainly doesn't get it from me.
i'd be surprised if muslims are the only relgious group rejecting this they are probably faking it if they give you a hard time like its a weird muslim thing, i gave it up in highschool as a christain thinking it was idol worship (backwards i know), and Alhamdulillah for Islam. i mean how can it not be you are placing your hand over your heart and swearing to this thing LOL
ReplyDeleteAameen to the duas.
ReplyDeleteNa'am, alot of people get caught up in the tradition and not realizing what they are actually doing, sort of going with the flow. Most of the ones encouraging it don't even know why they salute it.
lol @ Zainab...I know you are glad that you are homeschooling now. And you are a great, dedicated teacher too I know. Keep up the good work. You and ummidris do a great job and homeschooling and I'm proud of everyone who does. That's a hard but very rewarding job. May Allaah reward you, Aameen.
lol @ ummx, tell your daughter I said "that a girl!"...lol. Sbb1 was like that at school, I had to have my Umi (May Allaah be pleased with her) tell my teachers I couldn't salute. And like Zainab's story, every now and then they would try to tell me that I can at least stand up. I would say, "My mom told me to sit down when yall do this!"...lol.
i guess its best to explain to them why as they might all think we r on the death to america vibe
ReplyDeleteShukrn, Nisa I appreciate that. Na'am @ summerreading, I have on many occasions explained to the teachers as to why its not done and will not be done. I had one who identified myself and my family as being UNpatriotic, I said to him call it what you want, but my children will be UNsaluting that flag, (LOL). After explaining our facts behind not participating in such a thing, I found some who appeard to have understood , then there are those.... you know, who didn't.
ReplyDeleteZainab, where you @ jum'muah last week? Have we ever met? There are not too many homeschoolers in our area, so was curious what ages you teach.
ReplyDeleteAs salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakatuhu , Laa@ummidris, I dont get out much, masha Allaah. I dont believe we have ever meant personally, however I almost feel we have.
