As Salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaah. I just came back from our Eid festivities and had alot of fun MashaAllaah. At first everyone was a little worried about us having it outdoors, but walhamdulillaah Allaah blessed us with a beautiful sunny day! It was nice seeing everyone enjoy themselves eating and talking. The children had games, toys and one of those big , bouncing things where someone always ends up crying (lol), the brothers were playing football and wrestling and us sisters were having fun being the usual chatterboxes we are. I was glad we had a good turn-out here in Atlantic City. How was your Eid?

  1. Wa'3alaikum'salaam WaRa7matullah WaBarakatuhou. Mine's was a blast, al7amdulillah! It was @ Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY. We had a big picnic, lots of food. & I got to see many muslim faces I haven't seen in years. I also took some pics of the event, as well as some short videos of the khutbah. I intend to post them here so be on the lookout for them. TaqaBBAllaha minna wa minkum. P.S. I'm glad you asked how eid was. Jazakillahu khairan.

  2. Wa JazakAllaahu khairan.Sounds like Brooklyn had a good turn out as well. Me and Abu intend on visiting that area tomorrow InshaAllaah. What is the name of the Salafi Masjid in Brooklyn?

  3. There are 3 salafi masaajid in Brooklyn, The most popular are: Masjid al Farouq on Atlantic Avenue (Downtown, Brooklyn), Masjid ul Ikhwaa in Crown Heights, Masjid Nasir ud Deen Albani in Sunset Park, I recommend masjid al Farouq myself. The only problem is parking over there is rough.

  4. BarakAllaahu feek. He mentioned an Islamic clothing store on Atlantic Ave. (named Al-Noor) that we my go to as well while we are there so Masjid al Farouq may be the one we'll visit InshaAllaah. Thanks akhi!

  5. Wa alaikum salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu

Alhamdulillaah glad you had a nice time at your 'eid festivities. We just went to the prayer, stayed for a portion of the khutbah since the talking amongst women was louder than the khateeb then came home.

There are quite a few islamic clothing stores on Atlantic Ave so enjoy inshaa Allaah. It's been awhile since I've made that trek across the bridge. One day inshaa Allaah.

  6. there are tons of Islamic shops on Atlantic Ave, have fun inshaallah
you will be like 40 minutes from me :)

  7. walhamdulillaah ummx you made it for the prayer. You know the sisters should know by now to just shut up...lol...plain and simple, when the khutbah is being delivered. That is very annoying when you are trying to hear so I know you were frustrated.

Na'am Abu said that there are a number of shops that I may like on Atlantic Ave. too. We finally have the same day off to do something so he said we could do some out of town shopping. I was like "yippie!!" His face changed a little at my reaction, lol, I think he knows what he's in for (smiles).

MashaAllaah summerreading, that is close to you. Can you think of some shops that I may like?

  8. Na3'am. I'm very familiar with Al-Noor. That is on Atlantic Avenue (off Court Street). It's further away from Masjid al Farouq. It's closer to Masjid Dawud on State Street (The oldest masjid in NY est. 1923) unfortunately, that masjid isn't salafi.

  10. as salamu alaykum all! Well we went & prayed then went home to rest for a bit before visitin my father. My mother came up to visit with my baby sis. I sometimes wish my parents would get remarried,I mean 27yrs of marriage & 6 kids is alot. Then they get together and I am content with the divorce. Maa sha Allah at least they remained somewhat amicable for eid, and it went OK considering my maternal grandfather died sunday night & this is our first eid without our paternal grandmother who died in March. May allah forgive all 3 of my grandparents who passed and all our dead muslim relatives, amin.
Anyway on a lighter note my daughter got her ears pierced! A nice gift from her aunti"lola" before she leaves for overseas next month. She did not cry. But my fruity behind did, because my little girl is 8yrs old and I still remember her tiny little self clinging to me like a lemur to a tree as a nursing baby. she is a young woman, and I am in my late 20's!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ughhhhhhh, I feel so old. All in all it was a very pleasant eid and the best one I've had in many years, Allahu Akbar. May allah accept it from us & you, amin.
Oh and atlantic ave is a pain for parking. You may find parking by the brownstones depending on how early you go. As for clothing have a ball hun. 40mins from summerreading, 2 1/2hrs from me. ohhhh I miss Atlantic ave now. Ok said plenty. At least the kids are tired from eating & playing,so the adults can have somtime to talk, or even think(parents know how your brain escapes when putting kids to bed, lol) before bed, lol.

  11. JazakAllaahu khairan akhi abuadamin, Abu has been talking about going to Al-Noor ever since we decided to go there. Poor guy has a hard time finding the thoubes he likes in this area. He's really picky so I can't find him anything online. He has to try it on MashaAllaah. So InshaAllaah he should have fun there. I'll try to tackle every place else, lol. What cross street is Masjid Al Farouq (if you know), we may just take the extra drive InshaAllaah.

wa alaikum salaam wa rahmatullaah salafiummi, May Allaah Subhana wa ta ala bring you ease with your loses, Aameen and Aameen to your duas. LOL @ you crying at the ear piercing. Na'am the children do make us feel old while they blossom. I was thinking that at Eid today. I just sat back and watched the children for a while and began to match faces with parents and come to find out that some of the faces I was matching were not the parents but GRANDPARENTS!....LOL. I was like, SubhanaAllaah, what makes you feel older than the kids of the kids!.lol. So I know what you mean ukhti. Na'am, I was thinking of how parking would be. InshaAllaah, we'll find something, I'm kind of expecting it to be a pain. JazakAllaahu khairan for the heads up (smiles).

  12. If you can get there early parking shouldn't be too bad inshaa Allaah. I would usually take the train, but haven't done that in a long while since driving takes only about 30 minutes (no traffic) mashaa Allaah.

Alhamdulillaah I'm glad everyone seemed to have a nice day. aameen to all of the du'aa

Can't get any better than this to see the masjid location virtually maa shaa Allaah http://maps.google.com/maps?f=s&utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-bk-gm&utm_medium=ha&utm_term=google%20maps

  14. For nice thaubs, try http://www.desertboutique.com/ or http://alhannah.com/mensclothing.html. I've bought from both sites, Desert Boutique's are great value, but made in China (good for everyday use), Al Hannah costs a little more (good for Jumu'ah, Eid, etc), but good quality made in Jordan or Syria.

  15. UmmalThalatha, I pray Allah have mercy your relatives who've passed on and accept their good deeds, accept them into Jannah and protect them from the punishment of the grave. Amin.

  16. Oh BarakAllaahu feeki ummx and alhalalfarms for the masjid and clothing sites. You know Sbb1 always tells me that I have the internet right at my fingertips and I still end up asking people first. I guess that is the old school in me. Thanks guys!

  17. OH yea, ummx....I also forgot all about google earth too! That should really take me there as well.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wa fiki, akhti, I was the same too, I never started really browsing for stuff till about 3 years ago. I still keep finding good Islamic sites for clothing, accessories, books, etc, ma sha' Allah. Sad part is, most of them won't answer your queries, that's why I deal mostly with those 2, they usually are very helpful. And may Allah improve our brotherhood and ethics, amin!

  22. Very important note: Al-Noor store is primarily a muslim women's boutique! They have very little or no men's clothes there!!! Your Abu'll be very disappointed if he's looking to buy thobes there. I personally recommend Dar ul 3'ilm (right next door to Masjid al Farouq). They have the best selection of men/women's malaabees. & Salafi literature. If you like, I'll be more than happy to meet your Abu & show him around. I live right in that area, & I'm on vacation for the next 2 weeks. I just have to pick up my son Adam from school, insha'Allah.

    ReplyDelete
  23. MashaAllaah. BarakAllaahu feek for the heads up akhi. InshaAllaah, we had intentions on visiting the masajid as well so the store you are talking about (next to the masajid) would be fine InshaAllaah.
Na'am, I think Abu would like that. You can PM your number and I'll pass it to him InshaAllaah. JazakAllaahu khairan!

  24. Another good store next to the masjid is one called the "Fertile Crescent". All the malabees is upstairs on the second floor. & Lastly, check out www.essenceofblack.com

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hah! Anisa, I never hear of that store, and never came up in my searches, but I checked it out (Yes, I know it wasn't posted for me), but cool site... I might just buy something... Jazaki Allahu Khairan.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Is Essenceofblack okay now? I recall last year a lot of sisters complaining about not receiving the orders and the items not being up to par. Inshaa allaah it's changed because the items looked nice mashaa allaah.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaah taqabballallaah minnaawa minkum. I pray that Allaah gives us all the tawfeeq to continue on khayr after Ramadaan. This is a response to the inquire about salafi masjids in Brooklyn. You have Masjid al-Ikhwah 1135eastern pkwy between Utica ave and Rochester. You have Masjid al-Albaanee on 9st 3rd ave. As for masjid al-Faarooq, it is not a salafi Masjid. We use to be there teaching and educating the people for almost 2 years. Then the Hizbees along with the Administration came up with flimsy excuses to remove the teachers along with the last Salafi Imaam that was there. The current Imaam is a supporter of firqatut-Tableegh and he studied with the Ikhwaanees in Yemen. He praises them and supports them. I spoke to him personally about the Tableeghes and he went on to defend them. So please take note of that. The tableeghees come there and invite the people to go on Khurooj openly and this is along with the permission of the Imaam and the board.

  28. As Salaamu alaikum

Walhamdulillaah, me and Abu did our Brooklyn trip. It wasn't exactly as expected but that is the Qadr of Allaah. I have pluses and minuses.. Well.... we already knew the parking was going to be a test but we tried to keep positive about it by peeling some bills instead of meter coins for better and safer parking so we went to an Avis parking lot where we were asked to pay $15 per hour. Feeling extremely dooped, we just said whatever ok, he parked the car and gave us a ticket. The Al-Noor store was only a block away and we decided to go there first. As we were approaching we noticed a gate covering the entrance of the store. In disbelief that the store was actually CLOSED, we (without saying a word to each other), scrambled left and right looking for another entrance....LOL. It was pitiful guys. But we got over it and went back to Avis to explain that we were only gone 5 min. and wanted the car back for less than $15. Well, brother wasn't having it, so at that time Abu decided to call Bro. Abu Adam, who very hospitably met us and showed us around a bit. We went to Masjid al-Farouq to make salat (which really didn't seem like a salafi masjid, but I found a private spot to pray MashaAllaah) and then we were shown some muslim stores along Atlantic Ave. I found a nice abaya and Abu a thoube. I had intentions on buying a nice niqaab, but I only saw two (one was on my face and the other on another sister's face), lol. My favorite shop (that I only spent about 10 minutes in) was the house of knowledge (i think) where the upper level had alot of nice books. I bought 3 of them (The Obligation of Commanding the Good and Forbidding the Evil, Al-Mujahadah-The Struggle Against the Soul, and Essential Matters of Tawheed for the New Muslim). The shops were very nice. JazakAllaahu khairan for akhi for showing us around. My Abu said he enjoyed talking to you.

I think the best part of the trip though was me and Abu spending that time together that we can never seem to find while we are working. When I come home from work, he's going then vice versa. So we caught up on a lot. My Abu is soo cool to talk to and has tons of stories of old and had me in stitches most of the time. I really enjoyed that. Allaah Subhana wa ta ala has truly blessed me with a wonderful father and I am very greatful to have him as long as I'm allowed.

JazakAllaahu khairan for all of your help and comments (smiles)!

    ReplyDelete
  29. InshaAllaah guys Abu said our next trip in a few weeks or so will be Newark! Maybe we could visit Masjid Rahmah (smiles).

  32. Oh ummx, I heard about some not so good things about essenceofblack.com too some time ago, so thanks for reminding me.

    Thanks salafiummi!....we did (smiles).

  33. 35. CLOSED? FAUPAX! But funny thing about our family is that humor can be found in everything so I can just imagine the aftermath laughs I'll hear about later Insha Allaah LOL. Gee whiz if Umar and I were there w/you guys? (can u imagine the laughs...endless!LOL) The day would've been a 2 hr episode of Laverne and Shirley and Allaah knows best.
I never paid for parking on Atlantic ave beyond a meter (girl you forgot our philly bogart move have I been gone for that long? lol) $15 for parking for 5 minutes, noway! Masha Allaah, happy to hear you guys had a good day though.
btw love your avatar baby sis you ROCK (fabulously)!

    ReplyDelete
  36. LOL, yes, you know me and Abu started with the jokes already. It would have been nice if you and Umar were there. Girl we would have been laughing at everything! Well...about the parking, we ended up staying there on $15 for the rest of the time we were there. Abu looked like he was ready to give him an eye-jammie so I just told the guy we were just going to stay there and when we came back, he just said $15 was cool for the few hours so I guess that wasn't bad considering the $15 for just one hour.
    Thanks!!

  37. Well...my eid: we go to prayers at a little masjid here in umm al quwain that has them outside (the women have a section built with high walls), then from there we went to an eid breakfast in Ras al khaimah(RAK), had a ball, food was good-they had the real hot sausage links, anyway saw a long lost friend from AC just moved here from Yemen we reminisced about umi and family, then I found out the hostess is from sicklerville-NJ in the house finally and felt good! Every gathering the past 2 years has been me being the only one from AC. Then day 2 of eid we went to abu dhabi and I had a blast, the hostess was charming, elegant, posh, funny, generous and kind. There was great food, good conversations, funny kids, and yall are not going to believe this one...I found my long lost twin there (how uncanny is that, amazing), unbelievably there was a sister there who was almost just like me and we even had almost everything in common (scary) others said it too I was freaked out but so glad to have met her Masha Allaah. This was the best ramadan and eid I've experienced in a long time. Allaah is so kind I pray He allows us all to see more ramadans ameen.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Aameen.

You always seem to find someone you know anywhere you are, lol. That is soo cool. It sounds like you had alot of fun walhamdulillaah. Hmmm...the sister must be pretty amazing to be like your twin, I have yet to run into another you. I'm glad you had a happy Eid.

ooh wee another you... she must be pretty awesome maa shaa Allaah!

  43. Ok ummx, InshaAllaah. That would be so cool meeting you in person (smiles).

    ReplyDelete
  44. yea, when I went into masjid al faarooq to the second level to pray, it was a huge masalla, then a smaller masalla off to the side. I was going toward the small one and peeked over into the larger one and noticed a few brothers and sisters sitting together (which gave me the indication that it was not a salafi masjid). I signaled one of the sisters over and asked her was I okay praying in the corner without any brothers coming into there but there was a language barrier (I must save for those one-on-one arabic classes!), but the small section I was in seemed okay, so I just went and prayed.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Inshaa Allaah (smiles bac@cha)

Oh I didn't see that, but the stairs seemed endless lol. I encountered a language barrier as well being yelled at for what I don't know lol.

    ReplyDelete
  46. aww ummx thanks, you and I are a lot alike and I can't wait to meet you in person too, but I must say, it was a kinda strange experience, it really was (i.e. meeting the sister at the gathering). I will pm youz guyz later lol.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I've never prayed there at Farooq, but I prayed at another masjid b4 moving here on my way to Kennedy, had to make a wudhu and saw some huge antennae waving for signal from the sink drain. I got outta there before being introduced to whatever they were attached too. Needless to say that was the fastest wudhu made in the west.

    ReplyDelete
  48. you're welcome. I'm sure it was a strange experience. Did she look like you too? inshaa Allaah the next time you're in the states I'm crashing! lol

    ReplyDelete
  49. lol @ fastest wudhu made in the west. seems as though quite often there's something strange happening in the womens area. I remember one of my first masjid experiences having to walk down into a dark basement to make wudhu. creepy.
